What you need to know about hearing loss

Hearing loss can often come on slow, start later in life and progress gradually worse until it becomes a serious problem. Having expertly prescribed and fitted hearing aids can help offset these losses, and some adults can also have their hearing improved by an ENT surgeon. It’s best to get an evaluation to determine the best solution for you.

Many individuals with a moderate hearing loss can often be unaware of their problem, despite close family and friends often being the first to suspect anything is wrong.

Exposure to loud noises, genetics or simply the natural aging process are usually the main source of any problem, and most hearing professionals believe that usually two of these symptons occur together.

Usually, most hearing loss is painless and transparent. The only physical warning sign is typically “ringing in the ears” – sometimes known as tinnitus, but usually hearing loss simply sneaks up on you, meaning that it’s often a very gradual process. This is the reason that many people leave it till it becomes a serious problem before seeking treatment. Most loss develop over approximately 30 years, and by the age of 50 or 60 there is usually enough deterioration to make normal conversation difficult.

Acute hearing loss can have a negative effect on your life, and restricts the basis human need to communicate with others. This causes everyday problems with interaction, listening to and remembering important information, increasing stress and many other factors.

These days you most certainly don’t have to suffer in silence, and there are many effective solutions available, so you don’t have to miss out on on enjoying your life.
